Meet Harry Deluxe
About
Harry is a singer, actor, musician, professional MC and entrepreneur. She fronts and manages two working Perth bands, including her original band, Mama Red & the Dark Blues. Harry Deluxe is also a skilled placemaker / curator and arts manager, and Co-Founder of The Pack Australia, a developing music streaming service that enables local, original musicians to access new markets for their music by engaging directly with local businesses that play recorded music, local listeners and local governments. She also sits on the Board of the Perth Music Committee.
Harry co-managed a niche multi-arts production company (HMS Pop-Up Productions) for five years which staged pop-up arts, music and theatre events and interventions in Perth and interstate. Arts activations included: Cafe Jazz & Laneway Swing – City of Perth; Perth Retro Rumble / Rumble in the Underground; Summerset Festival Inglewood Spaces Projects; Regal Theatre Attic Bar Activations; ProSubi Pop-Up Activations; Summer Swing Smackdown and many more.
Harry has also worked with a range of music and arts organisations, including Musica Viva Australia, the Awesome Children’s Festival, City of Canning Spice Road Pop-Up Project, City of Perth Winter Arts Festival and City of Stirling Summerset Arts Festival.
Performance Credits
Prior to moving to Perth in 1997 Harry toured the West Coast of the USA from LA to Vancouver with a 14 piece vocal ensemble and performed in a number of pro-amateur music theatre performances in both paid, chorus and understudy lead roles. Her musical highlights have included Performing on Stage as a part of a 30 strong choir for Split Enz “Enzso” tour, recording with various bands as a backing vocalist, violinist, flutist, celtic harpist and bassist, and performing with Victor Borge on commercial telelvision. On moving to Perth Harry formed the Harry Deluxe Swing Band, showcasing at the Perth International Arts Festival as well as regularly performing at interstate festivals and concerts, and has held coveted long-term residencies at the Crown Casino (previously Burswood Casino), the Mustang Bar and the Ellington Jazz Club. Harry has also opened for or supported acts such as James Morrison and Joe Camilleri, and continues to perform regularly in Perth and interstate. She recorded her first original album with the Swing Band in 2002. She formed her second band, Harry Deluxe & the Cap Gun Johnnies in 2000. The band still performs regularly in Perth and interstate at Festivals. She formed her third band in 2016, Mama Red & the Dark Blues; an all original alt-country blues outfit, with Australian gothic influences. She recorded her second original album with the band in 2016, and is working toward her third studio album, to be released in mid-2022.
